Couples & Relational Therapy

The same argument, again. There's a reason for that — and a way through it.

_____

Most couples don't come to therapy because the relationship is bad. They come because something that once worked has stopped working, and they can't find their way back to each other on their own. The conflict isn't really about the dishes, the finances, or the way one of you handles stress. It's about something underneath — a cycle that's been running longer than either of you realize.

Couples therapy with me is not arbitration. I'm not here to determine who's right. I'm here to help you both see the system you've built together — the patterns of pursue and withdraw, of armor and shutdown, of good intentions producing the opposite of what you want — and to interrupt it at the root.

This is relational depth work. It draws on family systems theory, attachment science, somatic awareness, and direct, structured communication practice. It asks something of both of you. And when couples engage it fully, it works.

What changes?

_______

  • The cycle slows down — you start to see it before you're inside it

  • Conversations that used to escalate begin to land differently

  • Each partner develops a clearer understanding of their own role in the dynamic

  • Repair becomes possible — not just ceasefire

  • The relationship becomes a place of genuine safety and honest connection

A note on commitment…

Couples work requires both partners to be genuinely engaged.

Sessions are not a space for one partner to convince the other of something. They're a space for both people to do something harder — to be seen, to stay in contact with discomfort, and to choose something different than what the old pattern demands.

If you're not sure whether couples therapy is the right move, we can talk through it in a consultation.
